The short answer
Choose a stick pack when the product is taken on the go, poured straight into the mouth or a bottle of water, and when a slim, premium look matters. Choose a sachet when you want flexibility in size, an economical pack for sampling or food service, or a wider pack for thicker liquids and sauces that need more room.
Shape and how customers use it
A stick pack is long and narrow. It tears open at the top and pours in a controlled stream, which makes it easy to squeeze a gel or shot directly into the mouth, or to pour a concentrate into a water bottle without spilling.
A sachet is wider and flatter, usually square or rectangular. It's easy to tear and works well when the product is squeezed onto food, mixed into a glass or used as a sample.
What each format fills well
- Stick packs: energy and hydration shots, electrolyte concentrates, honey and syrups, functional gels, liquid vitamins
- Sachets: liquid supplements, drink concentrates, condiments and sauces, sampling portions
Both formats handle liquids. Thicker products like honey and gels need the formula and fill process tuned so they fill cleanly and dispense well, which is something to test in production trials.
Shelf presence and branding
Stick packs usually sell in printed cartons or countertop displays, and they read as a premium, modern format. Sachets are more often sold in multi-packs, used in subscription boxes or handed out as samples. Both print well on custom roll film, so your brand can appear on every pack.
Cost
Unit cost depends on the formula, film, fill volume and order size, so there's no single rule. In general, sachets are an economical choice for sampling and food service, while stick packs carry a premium feel that can support a higher retail price. A manufacturer should be able to quote both so you can compare.
You don't have to choose just one
Many brands sell the same formula in more than one format: a bottle for home, stick packs for travel and sachets for sampling. Running one formula across formats keeps your product line consistent.
